The Vision Begins (2012)
Satarupa Majumder, a teacher from Kolkata, dreams of bringing quality education to Sundarbans, noticing the lack of opportunities in Katakhali village.
Key Achievements
- Identified education gap in remote Sundarbans region
- Conducted initial surveys in Katakhali village
- Built relationships with local community members
- Planned curriculum suitable for local children
- Secured initial funding through personal savings
Establishing Swapnopuron (2014)
Satarupa rents land, builds a school, and starts teaching 25 children English, forming the foundation of Swapnopuron Welfare Society.

- First classroom established with basic facilities
- 25 students enrolled in inaugural batch
- English-medium curriculum introduced
- Local teachers recruited and trained
- Community trust-building initiatives launched
Expansion and Challenges (2016-2018)
After a major loss, Satarupa dedicates herself fully to the school, expands classes, and builds a hay-based structure for Grades 5-8 using her savings.

Community Impact and Resilience (2020)
Despite COVID-19 and a cyclone, Swapnopuron continues education through worksheets and online classes while distributing food to families.

- Distributed food to 500+ families during lockdown

- Conducted online classes via WhatsApp
- Provided mental health support to students
- Rebuilt after cyclone damage
Recognition and Growth (2023)
Today, Swapnopuron has 5 centres impacting 1,700+ children, offering holistic education and empowering the entire community.
