After 13 years in Kolkata, Satarupa Majumder felt a deep urge to create meaningful change. Leaving behind formal education, she set out on a mission to bring literacy and opportunity to the Sundarbans. In 2012, during her first visit to Hingalganj—a remote island on the Indo-Bangladesh border—she witnessed the urgent need for quality education.
Determined to make a difference, she founded Swapnopuron Welfare Society (SWS), one of the first English-medium schools in the heart of the Sundarbans. What began as a single play school has now expanded to seven branches, educating 850 children, with a bold vision to establish 50 centres by 2026. Over the past nine years, SWS has impacted over 1,700 children, transforming lives through education.
