At the Katakhali Swapnopuron Welfare Society (KSWS), our work extends beyond education to include economic empowerment for rural women in the Sundarbans. Building on our commitment to holistic community development, KSWS has launched its Livelihood Programme to support women in gaining skills, building enterprises, accessing markets, and achieving long-term financial independence.
Why This Matters
Women in the Sundarbans often depend on informal, low-paying work and face increasing climate-related risks. The KSWS Livelihood Programme addresses these challenges by creating sustainable, skill-based income opportunities that strengthen household stability and community resilience.

What We Are Doing
The programme focuses on four integrated pillars:
Skill and Enterprise Training Hubs
Local centres provide hands-on training in apparel and textile work, eco-herbal products, and service-based digital skills.
Digital and Financial Literacy
Women learn UPI payments, basic accounting, online marketing, and digital record keeping to manage income independently.
Climate-Smart Livelihoods
The programme promotes eco-friendly enterprises such as organic gardening, vermicomposting, mangrove-based products, and resource-efficient production practices.
Women’s Entrepreneurship Incubator
Women are supported through micro-enterprise clusters, seed capital, business coaching, product innovation labs, and market linkage support.

Long-Term Impact
Through this programme, KSWS envisions women transitioning from informal labour to sustainable entrepreneurship, taking leadership roles within self-help groups and community institutions, and creating positive spillover effects on children’s education and family wellbeing. The Livelihood Programme is designed as a replicable model for rural economic transformation in climate-vulnerable regions like the Sundarbans.
